Happy New Year!

Wow. 2009. Happy New Year! Isn't it funny how the older we get, the faster time flies. I heard somewhere that time is like a roll of toilet paper.. the more it's used, the faster it goes! Anyway, I've been thinking again. And watching my kids. They've each grown at least an inch in the last couple of months and my baby isn't a baby anymore. He's made that transition to kid. He tells jokes and teases others and enjoys playing his own side in a game! He's in kindergarten now, loving to read and do math problems. He wants his friends to come over every day and play. Just like his older brother. Since we're on Christmas break, I said OK and they each invited a friend over for the afternoon. The younger friend was terrified of our dog (understandably--but if he would've stopped screaming, the dog would have stopped jumping!) and the older ones decided to have a sleepover. At midnight, I hear a very light tapping on my bedroom door and he's in tears.. wants to go home. So I told him to call his mom and say we're coming as I packed my kids in their blankets in the car and off we went.

My older son is into arguing and kung fu. Both of which I still win. He's likes physical activity and got a pogo stick from Santa! He spent the next 2 days breaking his own records and letting his papa keep count! I worry about this prince more because there aren't many boys his age around and we're constantly having to compensate for this.. my daughter and youngest son have many friends around and a longer list of possible play dates. SO.. when we found another boy in our church around the same age, we've jumped at every possibility to let them hang out together.

My daughter got a sewing machine for Christmas and has been away at her aunt's house learning to sew with her cousin for 2 days. She came back with a cute purse and pillowcase! I am forever grateful for willing aunts who help my children become independent and able to care for themselves.

... I had to take a few days break and find some more time to type...

Everyone went back to school today. My kids and I. It's actually nice to go back to routine after a long break like that! The only bad thing for me is I am a night owl and it takes me exactly one night to turn my schedule upside down. I stay up late.. 3-4:00 AM and sleep until 9:00 AM. So when routine comes back, I spend one miserable day barely able to wake up in the morning and waiting until I can go back to bed that night! Tonight is that night!

SO I hope you keep your resolutions short and sweet and make progress this year! My new resolution is to keep de-junking my life and my house... I've been trained to save and think about possible later uses.. but when I need something, I can't find it and I have to buy it anyway.. so what's the point? I don't want to live for "What if?" anymore. I believe in being prepared and flexible and ready to adjust my outlook, but I don't need to save the 'what if' junk! Out with the old and no more new!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
